    Summer Mowing

Did you know...? Correct mowing practices can make a noticeable difference in your lawn during drought and heat.

Bermuda should be cut between 1.5 to 2.5" in height and Fescue should be cut at 3" during July & August.

Cutting the lawn short discourages deep rooting, leaving your lawn more susceptible to dry conditions. A short lawn also will rebound slower to the environmental stress caused by low moisture and extreme temperatures.

In shady areas, always maintain the turf at the maximum height. The extra leaf space will help compensate for the lower light levels.

Never remove more than 1/3 of the leaf blade in one cutting. Doing so will reduce the amount of moisture and nutrients the plant is holding resulting in a stressed lawn.

Mulch mowing, not bagging the clippings, is very beneficial to the lawn. By returning the clippings to the lawn you are adding back to the soil the valuable nutrients contained in the leaf blade. Typically, leaf tissue is 90% water and nitrogen.

Finally, a well maintained mower with sharp blades will make a difference in your lawn's health in stressed times. A dull blade tears the leaf rather than shearing it cleanly.
